hello! I need to get more experience altering my maps based on user feed back. To help with this, i decided to start with a simple, hollow, grey box and take feed back from people from this thread to alter its appearance. heres what it currently looks like: imageshack.us/photo/my-images/844/firstc.jpg/Im hoping it turns into something fun to play and fits with the ins-r theme.

No offense but its kinda pointless. It has a LONG way to go for it to fit to anything.

Also making maps as "boxes" is a very bad way to start when it comes to making maps.

I think you should make it fit the INS environment. Also, you should make it less boxy and grey.

No offense but its kinda pointless. It has a LONG way to go for it to fit to anything. although i intend to finish the map, the main goal for me isnt a finished product, but instead, to get experience interacting with customers, updates, and maintenance. I think you should make it fit the INS environment. Also, you should make it less boxy and grey. Thanks for the feedback! One of the best ways to break up a boxy area is with nature. I decided to add a giant cliffs, with a bridge going across the middle. To tie the map into the INS theme, i added a mosque. Usually it was the iraq/afghan army that would enter and search religous structures, so i'll try to make it insurgent only (maybe a spawn?). The map is still grey, ill try to work on that as i import new textures. here are some updated pictures: img34.imageshack.us/g/secondm.jpg/

I still dont get what you are up to do. The Mosque looks good, is it a model? Dont mix up pure nature with cityside. Noone places such a mosque into trees and rivers... not even the iraqis do Do you know the fallujah project by Renan? forums.insmod.org/index.php?showtopic=23403Try to do something like this. But please dont forget to place objects and details in the streets...

Im worried the map might become too linear (since its urban), and would like suggestions on improvements or alterations in the layout to prevent the linear feeling. heres an overhead view of what ive done so far: imageshack.us/photo/my-images/198/overviewlo.jpg/

Easiest way to shy away from linear gameplay in urban maps, is literally. to make lots and lots of ways to get everywhere, through various buildings, streets, canals, rivers. whatever you want. you need to think about potential advantages of flanking, this will make flanking more appealing and make it less linear.
